Join the Movement: Support the School of Law on Giving Tuesday, Nov. 27

2018 Giving Tuesday_Insta PostOn Tuesday, Nov. 27, the School of Law will once again participate in Giving Tuesday, the national one-day giving campaign following Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Every gift, big or small, makes a huge impact on the lives of our students and our community. This year, the School of Law is encouraging gifts to fund four specific needs: our clinical program, public interest student fellowships, an annual staff award and resources for faculty scholarship.

The UB Students for Public Interest (UBSPI) have raised money for the last 25 years through efforts like Giving Tuesday and their annual spring auction held every February. Donations to this fund support stipends for law students completing summer fellowships at public-interest organizations like Maryland Legal Aid, House of Ruth, the Homeless Persons Representation Project and many more. Learn more about UBSPI and their 25th annual gala on Friday, Feb. 22.

The UB Clinical Program
Each year, our 13 law clinics provide nearly 200 students the opportunity to participate in clinical programs and externships. Money raised for this fund allows the clinical faculty, fellows and student-attorneys to continue their important work in the Baltimore community and beyond. Clinics represent, on average, 450 low-income clients every year, including adults, children, neighborhood associations and other nonprofit organizations. Learn more about our clinical program here.

In Memory of Rose McMunn
Gifts to the law school’s annual fund in memory of longtime UB Law staff member Rose McMunn fund an annual award to a deserving member of the UB School of Law staff.

Faculty Scholarship Fund
These gifts support avenues for faculty to share their research and scholarship with colleagues, encouraging engagement, collaboration and conversation among the School of Law faculty.

Any gift of $5 or more also earns the School of Law a silver “Bow on Poe” as part of the University’s annual competition among the four schools and University library. The School of Law has come in a respectable 2nd and 1st place in overall funds raised on Giving Tuesday the last two years respectively, but we’re setting our sites on a “sweep” this year of most number of gifts and most money raised.

Your generosity will help the School of Law put the most “Bows on Poe” this Giving Tuesday, but more than that, your support will make a critical impact on our students and their future clients.

You can follow the progress of this one-day fundraising effort via the @BowOnPoe and @UBaltLaw Twitter accounts, and help us spread the word by sharing news of your gift on social media using these hashtags: #GivingTuesday #BowOnPoe #UBalt #UBaltLaw #UBLawClinics #McMunn #UPSPI
