Baltimore Law Clinical Fellow Sakinah Tillman Sworn In as President of Monumental City Bar Association

Sakinah Tillman, clinical teaching fellow in the University of Baltimore School of Law’s Low-Income Taxpayer Clinic, was sworn in June 22 as president of the Monumental City Bar Association.

Tillman joined the Low-Income Taxpayer Clinic in July 2020. Over her career, she has represented numerous clients in matters before the Internal Revenue Service. Prior to joining the Baltimore Law faculty, Tillman was a senior state and local tax associate at RSM US, LLP, where she represented clients on technical state and local tax issues, prepared complex returns on behalf of partnerships and S corporations, and wrote memoranda, matrices and other client deliverables.

During law school, she received the Distinguished Student Award from the Student Bar Association. She has received the Donald A. Thigpen Rising Star Award from the Washington Bar Association, Young Lawyers Division, which is awarded to an attorney who has made great contributions to the legal profession, and to the Washington Bar Association, during an attorney’s first year of practice.

At the ceremony, Tillman said, “Judge [Michael] Studdard, thank you for handing me the baton. Monumental City Bar Association is in good hands!

“Serving is all that I am and what I love. ‘Service is the rent we pay for the privilege of living on this earth.’ I am honored and humbled to be the president of the Monumental City Bar Association! This is more than a title, but to give back and serve in a city I live in!

“To my amazing executive board, ‘your team is only as strong as their leader.’ I promise to be a strong leader! We are better together! I look forward to serving with you! Let’s go!!!!!!”
